March 2025 saw the final stint of operational service from Royal Air Force Puma HC.2 in both the UK and abroad after 54 years of service. Over the years I have found the aircraft to be quite elusive and never managed to properly document any. Exercise ‘Kukri Dawn’ was held out of Leuchars, Scotland in February where 2x Puma from RAF Benson operated with Chinook, allowing new pilots and crewmen to complete final check sorties before passing out of the OCU squadron for deployment to a frontline squadron. During this time, the Puma crew’s paid a visit to my hometown of Edinburgh, working with the British Army as part of their training - a perfect opportunity to catch the aircraft on one of its final training sorties. Another small and unique setting to see the aircraft was at RAF Northolt in March, during the base’s bi annual night-shoot.
